Jack, now eighteen years old, was diagnosed with Stage 3, Burkitts-like Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma when he was fourteen. Jack wrote a background story about what happened when he as diagnosed and how it affected him. He gave the story to The National Children's Cancer Society (NCCS), where his story is able to be viewed on their website. Throughout his story he shares how when he first was diagnosed, was a very hard time. Jack was getting ready to go into High School and was enjoying baseball.
Not only did Jack beat cancer, but he is determined to make sure that he gives his body a reason to get it again. He has decided to live a healthy lifestyle and exercise. While going through treatment, Jack was not able to do whatever he wanted to do, but beating cancer gave him another outlook on life and wants to take care of himself emotionally and physically. "My diagnosis and treatment also instilled in me the importance of living a healthy lifestyle," shows just how much value he has in this world.
Value is what every single cancer victim is reminded they have through such a horrific time.
Their words are valued.
Their voice is valued.
Their smile is valued.
Every single part of them is valued and are reminded of that every day while and after going through cancer. Jack is one more victim that shared just how valuable his life is. He is now a survivor of childhood cancer and is starting a new chapter in college, one chapter that you never know if you will reach when being diagnosed with childhood cancer.
"So when I think about how cancer has affected me, my life and future goals, my first response is that my approach to life has changed"
"I don't sweat the small stuff"
