Each year around 13,500 children are diagnosed with cancer in the US. If a child is diagnosed with cancer early, they are likely to die by the age of 8. No, not all children die of cancer, but the ones that do lose a lifetime of experiences. They will never get to go to prom, get married, or have children of their own. No one wants to think about their child being sick and in pain. Parents do all they can do make their child comfortable and to feel better which racks up tremendous medical bills. Families spend roughly 50k on medical expenses a year. Most families with children that have cancer create a GoFundMe account to help raise money to pay the bills. There are also many organizations that raise money for childhood cancer and the treatment. | Next time you are driving down your street, look at all of the children playing. Children with cancer do not get that ability to play outside with friends since their immune system is shot and they also don't feel well enough to play any ways. These children spend endless days in the hospital where they receive treatment that tries to kill the cancer. This treatment is called Chemotherapy and radiation. The radiation makes the hair fall out and also makes kids very sick and weak. I personally know a couple of people that have or had cancer. My close friend is a survivor of childhood cancer and I have never seen some one so brave and full of life. That is what is so amazing about these young kids. They can be at their worst but still have hopes and dreams. Another child I know is my best friends brother. He was diagnosed with cancer in June of 2014. This little boy was diagnosed with a cancer that has a very low surviving rate and has been told that he has 2-3 years. When I see him you would have never known he was given that amount of time. He always has a smile on his face and will make you laugh by his contagious laughter that brightens a room. Knowing children that have gone through this really has opened my eyes to how severe it is, especially to such young kids. To help ease some stress, the foundations that i mentioned before have had a tremendous about of help. You also can help. Donating just a small amount is a blessing to these families and kids. You do not even have to donate money, you can donate blood, bone marrow, and even organs. What can you do to help? |
